Onion

How do I cut an onion without crying?

A lot of our MAGGI® recipes contain onion, this is because they add a fantastic base flavour to any dish, but we know that you'd rather not cry whilst cooking them! That's why we think these tips will be a game changer for you in the kitchen.

  • Tip 1: Find a very sharp knife, if your knife is dull it'll cause the onion to bruise which will lead to the compound that causes you to cry spraying out from the onion.
  • Tip 2: Ensure that you're cutting the onions in a well-ventilated room, this will mean that the compound that causes you to tear up will dissipate more quickly.
  • Tip 3: This tip might cause some of your dinner guests to look at you a bit strangely but if you really want to prevent yourself from crying when cutting an onion, why not invest in a pair of goggles. These could be regular goggles or a specialised pair of onion cutting goggles. Who knew they existed?

Now that you know how to reduce the number of tears shed whilst cooking with an onion why not head over to our recipes page and put our tips to the test.
